Getting things off my chest

Recently, I am feeling a mixed bag of emotions. Anger, Jealousy, Anxiety and Moody are some adjectives that have been brewing inside of me. I have this deep yearning within that demands greater change, to some extent, even excitement in my life. For someone who tags her self-worth to her accomplishments, University life has thrown me completely off balance. There is always someone out there who is prettier, brighter and more successful and I am reduced to a heap of fumbling mess.
But still, I feel that releasing my moods and emotions is necessary for me.

Always give and forgive

I'll admit that I am a tardy person with much inertia that prevents me from doing the right thing. Honestly, I am not sure if it has something to do with my psychological health, but i am going to take better care of my body and go for counselling during the holidays.

In my whole life, I feel that this inertia from within has prevented me from achieving greater things in life and forging closer bonds with those around me. Also, I might have disappointed a lot of people. Therefore, I should be treated and recover to be a better person. I hope to let go of all my emotional baggage as well.

Lastly, I should not take things for granted and put in more effort to excel in studies. Don't allow your mindset to hinder you from achieving greater things in your life.

Discover new passions and hobbies. So during the holidays, I will commit myself to a start-up internship, pick up photography, and discover more of my passions and interests.

I also have a bad habit of forming prior judgement of people and this loosely translates to me keeping them at an arm's length away. But still, still feels kinda difficult for me to connect to people emotionally. I don't know why. Trying to work on it, but boy its difficult!

Here's wishing that i'll be less critical of myself!

Sweethearts
Sara Zarr
As children, Jennifer Harris and Cameron Quick were both social outcasts. They were also one another's only friend. So when Cameron disappears without warning, Jennifer thinks she's lost the only person who will ever understand her. Now in high school, Jennifer has been transformed. Known as Jenna, she's popular, happy, and dating, everything "Jennifer" couldn't be -- but she still can't shake the memory of her long-lost friend.
When Cameron suddenly reappears, they are both confronted with memories of their shared past and the drastically different paths their lives have taken.

Sweethearts is a story about the power of memory, the bond of friendship, and the quiet resilience of our childhood hearts.

My favourite parts:

1.
" Some memories are slippery. There are things I want to remember about Cameron Quick that I can't entirely, like the pajamas he wore when he used to sleep over,or his favourite cereal, or how it felt to hold his hand as we walked home from school in third grade. I want to remember exactly how we became friends in the first place, a definite starting line that i can visit again and again. He's a story I want to know from page one.

My brain doesn't seem to work that way. Most specific things about Cameron are fuzzy- the day we met, how we got so close, exact words we said to one another. There are only moments, snapshots, pieces of the puzzle. Once in a while I feel them right in my hands, real as the present, but usually it's more like I am gasping for vapor. I understand that you can never have the whole picture; inevitably, there's stuff you don't know, can't know. But when it comes to Cameron, I always want more than I have, would like to be able to take hold of at least one or two more pieces, if only because I'm convinced there are parts of myself hidden inside them.

Other memories stick, no matter how much you wish they wouldn't. They 're like a song you hate but can't ever get completely out of your head, and this song becomes the background noise of your entire life, snippets of lyrics and lines of music floating up and then receding, a crazy kind of tide that never stops.

The memory of my ninth birthday, is that way. Sometimes it's an endless loop, from start to finish. But it's always there."

2.
"I woke in the night. The chill in my room, the quiet, the eerie light coming through the window - it all said snow. I got up and pulled on an extra sweatshirt, moving down the hall toward Alan's study. The door was ajar a couple of inches; I pushed it open.' Cameron? Cam?'
'I am awake.'
'Get up,' I whispered. 'I want to show you something.'
His silhouette rose and came to me.
'Put on your coat and shoes.'
He did.
I took his hand and led him past down the hall, past the humming fish tank, through the living room and out the front door. We stepped into the still, cold air. The street and sidewalk, the roof of every house, every car, the power lines, every tiny branch of every tree, had been covered by a neat layer of sparkling snow.

Quiet. Quiet. Nothing untouched by the white. The world and every thing in it had changed overnight.

' I haven't seen anything like this since I left Utah,' Cameron said.
'Remember the time at my apartment? You raised the blind like you were showing me the eighth wonder of the world.'
'I was.'

3.
" I got up,crept up to Alan's office, and went in.' Cameron? Cam?' He didn't move and appeared to be fast asleep. I am not sure what I wanted. To look at him, I guess, and talk. I sat on the floor by the sofa bed so that my face was level with his. His breath came in short, toothpaste-minty sighs.
'Cameron Quick,' I whispered, just wanting to hear his name. He still didn't move. I touched his face, following the curve of his jaw, the bow of his lips. This was the boy who made my childhood less lonely, who made me feel loved. And known. And accepted. Who had stared into my most terrifying moment right beside me,while my most terrifying moment  was his everyday life. And I pictured him patting that baby doll by a cold window, showing it comfort by instinct. I felt overwhelmed with sadness for his life and what it could have been, even though I knew he wouldn't want me to feel that way. He'd say it was all right, that he'd get by, that he could take care of himself. That he didn't want anyone to fix it. But I still wanted to, to somehow make up for that infinite, infinite well of helplessness that I'd spent most of my life believing had swallowed us up.

It hadn't though, because we are here, weren't we? Wiser and braver and more ready for life than our friends or parents or anyone we knew, than even I had realised until he came to show me.

I touched his wrist lightly, his elbow. I tucked the blanket up around his shoulder.

'I love you, Cameron,' I whispered.

Life is Golden

"Tell me, what it is you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

                                                                                                    - Mary Oliver

I have recently read a book called Golden by Jessi Kirby. Just like its name, the book is golden! The book had me thinking about the quote above. I realized everyone is so focused, practical and bent on achieving the same things: Getting good grades, going to a renowned university, find a stable job, find a partner, one day get married and have children. But... What is the point of all these? Have we forgotten all about ourselves? What do we really want to do? Who do we really want to be? Would we one day, look back and ten years from now on regret, not doing things we should have done when we were just innocent and mindless souls. Every choice we choose to make, every path we choose to take seems to be very much entwined with so many other people's. Have we done the right thing? or Have we done the wrong thing? Life is like a crossroad... what lies ahead is mysterious and full of doubts. It's like braving yourself to plunge into a pit of darkness, unaware of what might be there for you. It could be good or it could be bad. We can never know.

If we had made a different choice or took a different path to take...would we be proud of ourselves or be in constant reproach about how we were given choices and regretfully chose the wrong one. With my one wild and precious life, I will choose to take my life one step at a time. But I know that in my head up above and with my heart pounding rapidly, I know I will live a life I would have never imagined or expected for there is so many wonders in the world for me to explore and visit, people I want to see and do things I have never dared to. But all these crazy and ballsy thoughts will have to wait until I am old enough to make good of my words. Last quote to share:

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on."
                         -Robert Frost

Robert Frost appeared a couple times in the story for he was a distant relative of the character who shares the same last name so I thought I might like to share some of his poems. I went through one of them during my literature lesson in school.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

 The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

"Life is made of moments, and choices. Not all of them matter or have any lasting impact. Skipping classes in favor of a taste of freedom, picking a prom dress because of  the way it transform you into a princess in the mirror. Even the nights you steal away from an open window, tiptop silent to the end of the driveway, where darkened headlights and the pull of something unknown beckons. These are all small choices, really. Insignificant as soon as they're made. Innocent. But then. Then there's a different kind of moment. One when things are irrevocably changed by a choice we make. A moment we play endlessly in our minds on lonely nights and empty days. One we'll search repeatedly for some indication that what we chose was right, some small signs that tells us the truth isn't nearly as awful as it feels. Or as awful as anyone would think if they knew. So we explain it to ourselves, justify it enough to sleep. And then we bury it deep, so deep we can almost pretend it never happened. But as much as we wish it were different, the truth is, our world are sometimes balanced on choices we make and secrets we keep."

Back...

Certain radical and inevitable changes in life have made me revive this dead space after what seems like an eternity. So, i am just sitting cross-legged in my room, contemplating whether to write out the whole truth or part of the truth so i am just going to go with typing the first thing that pops into my mind. It's been six months since i last posted and i have experienced tons of stuffs ranging from remarkable to suicidal.

1. SYF
The journey to this competition has been one of the prime moments of life though the results were not desirable. I met new people, made friends, picked up a lot of skills along the way and was introduced to a brilliant instruments. The sad part is that the seniors who are the pillar to the band are mostly Sec 4s and they have to step down and concentrate on their studies. They rarely come back and so we have to play songs with the Sec 1s that are not as challenging and boring for the time to come... I strongly dislike the present committee of leaders that are the Secs 3 and the way they are misguiding the band.

2. Grades
I improved a lot for my mid-year examinations which i found startling! But ever since semester 2, my grades have been sliding even though i worked twice my butt off for all my common tests. I am not satisfied with myself but, i am trying to push all negative thoughts away and strive hard for my end-of-year examinations.

3. School
I hate the whole system that the school is run by though i enjoy lessons in school.

4. Friends
She is my good friend of 3 years but she decides to forsake everything over some mushy bf/gf (I hate these terms) relationship. She left me drenched in the rain while walking home with some love-sick boy. She demeans me and makes me feel inferior. She is as two-faced as a coin can ever be.She disgusts and irritates me by probably dating every guy she lays her eyes on. She is a person of my past and this is officially the last time i am ever going to speak of her ever again... :)

5.Reading
I managed to squeeze in some time for visits to the library. I read a book called "Keep Sweet" and it has been a long time since a book like this have impacted me in such great volume that I researched everything about it the moment i reached home. The innocence of the world that is violated by the malicious greed and evils of the world. I relished the book in one seating and the the last sentence of the book still resound in my mind.

6. I miss nature and i wish that i can visit the botanical gardens soon but my plan is put off until the end of the examinations so BOO!

7. Cousins
They might be coming back from the States soon because their grandfather is diagnosed with cancer and is not responding well to treatment.

As you can see, i am too lazy to carry on so i'll stop now. Till next time...

My December holidays 2012

Two posts in a day! Yay! I am sharing pictures of my first trip to Gardens By the Bay.It happened last year and i visited both the flower dome and the rain forest dome. I went with my family and cousins. Enjoy the pictures!

 Outside:
                                                      Dragonflies and Super trees

 Rainforest Dome:
When I entered, I immediately felt the cool breeze and water droplets on my face. The waterfall was so strong! We even got to walk on air through the winding bridges. It was kinda scary. It was a daunting but captivating first experience.

Flower Dome:
All was like a palette of colours, when you look down from the second level. Everything smells and looks kinda weird but fascinating at the same time. You'll see.
